I visited a meat restaurant near Nowon Station with a friend, looking for domestic pork belly. Upon visiting Hwafu Restaurant nearby, we were surprised to find a long line, so we ended up at a place called “Frozen House,” which sells domestically produced rapid-chilled pork belly.
Moreover, at the entrance, there were picnic tables for families and arcade games, creating a pleasant environment separated from the interior, suitable for families with children.
Frozen House at Nowon Station is located in an alley close to the center of the cultural street leading to Nowon Station. There seems to be parking space right in front of the store (parking available upon inquiry).
✔️ Operating Hours: Daily from 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM, located between exits 1 and 2 of Nowon Station.
Basic side dishes include lettuce, perilla leaves, bean sprout salad, shredded green onion salad, and kimchi, which are provided. They are willing to bring more if needed. The owner of Nowon Frozen House is very friendly, which is acknowledged.
Three servings of frozen pork belly were served with a fixed quantity principle. If in doubt, they will happily confirm it for you.
They put rapid-chilled domestic pork belly on an old-fashioned grill with aluminum foil. Along with kimchi, they also served bean sprouts.
They also served fluffy steamed egg, reminiscent of soft and tender castella cake, as a complimentary item when ordering meat.
As expected, the first taste of the meat was with oil and salt dipping. It’s a result of the education from my parents since childhood, teaching me through direct indoctrination.
There was also grilled intestines visible, with the main menu consisting of domestic rapid-chilled pork belly and a special cut called “Frozen Meat.”
✔️ Menu:
- Rapid-chilled pork belly 11,900 KRW
- Neck meat 10,900 KRW
- Frozen meat 9,900 KRW
They also serve soft tofu stew, soybean paste stew, steamed egg (if requested), basic steamed egg, stir-fried kimchi rice (kimchi is finely chopped), cold buckwheat noodles (unique, isn’t it?), and plain rice.
Mixing kimchi, pork belly, and shredded green onions together resulted in a somewhat messy visual appearance. But hey, as long as it tastes good, right?
The must-have stir-fried kimchi rice was 4,000 KRW and it was almost enough for two servings.
Flattening and gently pressing the rice at the end and eating it creates another delicacy.
Only one per table. Ah… I thought it was one per person. So I picked two, but both were duds. My luck with raffles is nonexistent.
There are also arcade games for kids. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a picture of the picnic area, but it was right next to the dining area, making it ideal for families with children.
Of course, the expression of having a drink and chatting while taking care of the kids might not be appropriate, but adults need to enjoy themselves too, right?
Nowon Station’s meat restaurant, from its unique name “Frozen House,” to the owner’s sense of humor and kindness, is a place that brings a smile to your face.
