Located in the Andeok-myeon area of Seogwipo, Gunsan Oreum offers not only a short, beginner-friendly trail, but also some of the best 360-degree views on the island.
But don’t let the word “easy” fool you—there are a few things you’ll definitely want to know before you go.
Getting There: A Steep and Narrow Drive
One of the biggest challenges of Gunsan Oreum isn’t the hike itself, but the road that leads up to the parking lot. The path is steep, narrow, and only wide enough for one car in many sections. If you happen to encounter another vehicle coming from the opposite direction, maneuvering to let them pass can be tricky, especially because of the slope.
Important tip: As you’re driving up or down, keep an eye out for wider pull-off spots where you can safely let others pass. And if you’re a beginner driver, it might be best to visit with someone more confident behind the wheel.
The Hike: Short and Sweet
Once you reach the parking area, the hike to the summit is surprisingly short—it takes only about 5 minutes on foot. You’ll start at a simple staircase that winds up the slope, and once you’re past a brief incline, you’re almost at the top.
The trail is not technically difficult, but do be careful if it has rained recently—some parts can get a bit slippery.
