Manseok Dakgangjeong Main Branch is a popular sweet and spicy fried chicken spot in Sokcho Gangwon-do.

🍗 Manseok Dakgangjeong in Sokcho – The Ultimate Korean Fried Chicken Experience

If you’re planning a trip to Sokcho in Gangwon-do, there’s one local delicacy you absolutely can’t miss: Manseok Dakgangjeong, a beloved Korean-style sweet and spicy fried chicken.

I recently stopped by the main branch of Manseok Dakgangjeong on my way back from Sokcho, and I’m here to tell you—it’s well worth the hype.

📍 Why Visit the Main Branch?

While many tourists flock to the famous Sokcho Jungang Market to grab a box of dakgangjeong, the main branch of Manseok Dakgangjeong is actually located near Sokcho Expo Park. Not only is this the original location, but it’s also less crowded, has ample parking (space for about 5 cars), and offers quicker pick-up service.

If you’re not a fan of waiting in long lines at the market, this spot is a hidden gem.

🍗 What is Dakgangjeong?

Dakgangjeong is a Korean-style fried chicken that’s crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and coated in a sticky sweet-and-spicy sauce. At Manseok, you can choose between:

  • Boneless or bone-in chicken
  • Original or spicy flavor

They use only 100% Korean chicken, so even the boneless option is juicy and flavorful.

Fun fact: Manseok prepares their chicken in advance, and that’s actually a good thing. Dakgangjeong is known to taste even better once it cools down a little—the flavors settle and the coating stays pleasantly sticky without becoming soggy.

🧼 Clean, Organized, and Transparent

A while back, Manseok had a minor scandal over hygiene issues—but since then, they’ve made a strong comeback with impeccable cleanliness and professionalism.

From the moment you walk in, you can see the packaging process happening right in front of you. The workers wear gloves, the kitchen is spotless, and even the boxes are designed with air holes to let steam escape and keep the chicken fresh.

📦 How Much Do You Get?

Don’t be fooled by the neat packaging—each box packs a serious punch in terms of quantity.

  • Boneless: About 1kg
  • Bone-in: About 1.6kg

Perfect for sharing… or not. 😋

🛒 Where Else Can You Get It?

If you can’t make it all the way to Sokcho or Gangneung, Manseok Dakgangjeong occasionally sets up pop-up stores near Seoul and the capital area. Keep an eye out during local festivals or department store events.

In total, there are 4 branches in Sokcho, including:

  • 3 inside or around Jungang Market
  • 1 main store near Expo Park

There’s also a location by Anmok Beach in Gangneung.

🤔 A Few Things to Keep in Mind

  • There’s no dine-in space, so be prepared for takeaway only.
  • The staff could be a little more friendly, especially compared to other tourist-friendly spots. But the efficiency makes up for it.
  • You can buy drinks, pickled radish, and even craft beer on-site to pair with your chicken.

💡 Personal Tip

While the market branches are fun for the experience, I always recommend picking up from the main branch if you’re driving. It’s quicker, more convenient, and less stressful.

And if you’re torn between Manseok and other local options, I’d also suggest trying Jungang Dakgangjeong, which is located nearby and has its own loyal following.
