Makguksu and Dakgalbi with a Beautiful Garden – Chuncheon Hakkok Intersection

When you think of Chuncheon, one dish comes to mind—Dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken).
Although, according to the locals here, the “original” actually comes from Hongcheon.

Apparently, in the beginning, it wasn’t served the way we know it today. The chicken was originally cut into rib-like pieces and grilled—probably because chicken was much cheaper than pork or beef at the time.

First Impressions – A Garden That Stole My Heart

I love restaurants with gardens, and this one was exactly my style. It felt welcoming and relaxing before I even tried the food.

There were also a few cats wandering around the yard. They weren’t overly friendly like house pets, but they also weren’t shy like stray cats—if you’re lucky, you might spot them lounging nearby.

Location & Name Notes

📍 Address: 1801 Yeongseo-ro, Dongnae-myeon, Chuncheon, Gangwon Province
The full name is Hakkok Sageori Makguksu Dakgalbi—make sure you include “Hakkok Intersection” in the name when searching, because there’s another similarly named place called “Hakkok-ri Makguksu Dakgalbi.”

Restaurant Layout – Choose Your Style

The restaurant is huge, with two separate large dining buildings:

  • Right-side building (from the parking lot) – for charcoal-grilled Dakgalbi (self-grill).
  • Left-side building – for iron plate Dakgalbi (staff grills for you).

According to the owner, charcoal-grilled Dakgalbi tastes better, but you’ll have to cook it yourself. The iron plate version is easier since it’s cooked for you at the table.

Menu & Dining Space

As of July 2025, the menu is up-to-date. The restaurant has a very spacious interior, with beautiful lighting and a warm atmosphere. The parking lot is massive—large enough for tour buses—and there are separate rooms for group dining.

The Food

We ordered 2 servings of iron plate Dakgalbi. The portion size was just right—not too little, not too much.

Alongside, they served mul-kimchi (water kimchi) with a clean, refreshing flavor—not overly sweet.

The staff came by regularly to stir and grill the chicken, ensuring it was perfectly cooked.
And yes, having it made by someone experienced definitely makes a difference in taste—our Dakgalbi turned out delicious.

Facilities

There’s a hand-washing area right at the entrance, so you don’t need to walk to the restroom before or after your meal.

After eating, I stepped outside and noticed how beautifully lit the garden and parking area were at night—the lights blended perfectly with the surrounding trees, creating a cozy atmosphere.

Final Thoughts

🧡 If you’re looking for Dakgalbi in Chuncheon, this spot is worth visiting. You can choose between charcoal (better flavor, self-grill) or iron plate (easier, grilled for you).
🧡 Huge parking lot, enormous dining halls, and a garden atmosphere make it perfect for both small gatherings and large groups.

Next time, I’m definitely coming back to try the charcoal-grilled Dakgalbi.
