Near Pocheon’s Gwangneung Arboretum lies Gomori Reservoir, where you can enjoy a traditional southern-style meal at Namdo Hansang.
It was a place where I had a slightly late lunch on a beautiful day when the sky was exceptionally stunning. Nowadays, autumn skies are truly mesmerizing to me.
Now, my favorite season has become early autumn, followed by late spring. Could this be evidence of aging? I find warmth preferable to heat and a slight chill preferable to cold.
Located near Gomori Reservoir in Pocheon, there are several restaurants offering rice tables and set meals featuring traditional southern cuisine. Among these, I found this place using a chance search on Naver.
✔️ Operating Hours: 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM (Last order at 7:30 PM)
They are closed every Wednesday, except when Wednesday falls on a public holiday.
✔️ Menu: The menu was beautifully presented under the sunlight. I opted for the classic Namdo Hansang set meal. Additionally, they offer a variety of southern-style meals depending on the main dishes, including freshwater fish steamed dishes, large steamed dishes, soy sauce marinated crab, and barley noodle set meals.
At a glance, there were over 20 side dishes, rice, soup, and stew served. Despite visiting the area near Pocheon’s Gwangneung Arboretum several times, I never knew such a place existed.
While the surroundings near Gomori Reservoir have been gradually transformed into attractions such as bakeries and cafes, this seemed like a family-friendly place to enjoy a set meal.
The Bulgogi stir-fry had a distinctive taste, reminiscent of traditional Yeongyang-style Bulgogi.
The seaweed wraps, dasima (kelp) cabbage, kimchi pancakes provided a healthy and delicious taste that seemed good for digestion and overall health.
The pickled octopus and braised pollack were among my favorite dishes, adding vibrancy to the meal.
Being a fish enthusiast, I enjoy any kind of fish dish, be it grilled, seasoned, or braised, as long as it’s not too bony!
The seaweed soup and rice (with a separate serving of soybean paste stew) were served in a stone pot. After serving some rice into the bowl, pouring water into the stone pot creates a flavorful rice soup to enjoy until the end of the meal. It’s easy to overlook this process and end up finishing all the side dishes first, as I did once!
The seasoned crab, tender stir-fried vegetables, and barley noodle dishes caught my eye.
The grilled freshwater fish was of a decent size. Many places nowadays serve smaller fish, but here, the size was satisfactory. With a bit more growth and a change in head shape, these fish would transform into barley noodles!
They also sell items like traditional soybean paste, young pollack jeotgal (fermented fish), and seasoned chili paste separately.
Parking facilities are well-equipped both in front and behind the building, so there’s not much worry about parking. Especially, the parking lot behind the building is quite spacious.
