Kim Youngmo’s snack shop bakery bread store.

I happened to visit Kim Youngmo’s renowned bakery, “김영모 과자점,” in South Korea.

I stopped by after a long time with a friend near Gangnam-gu Office for a drink. As we were craving something sweet for our second round, we decided to have coffee at a bakery.

Even after enjoying coffee and sweet pastries, I felt incredibly drowsy on the way back home.

Why do we feel so sleepy after drinking alcohol?

The name didn’t sound entirely unfamiliar, but I felt like I hadn’t heard of it much before. Am I someone who enjoys pastries? Well, truth be told, there aren’t many people who dislike pastries, right?

I didn’t even realize it was a chain store until that day. I thought the one I visited near Gangnam-gu Office was the main branch. 😆

The interior had a separate café area, perfect for enjoying sweet pastries and a cup of coffee. Perhaps that’s why I had trouble falling asleep in the wee hours of the morning. I ended up waking up at 4 AM and heading to work.

The inside of Kim Youngmo’s bakery was surprisingly spacious, and they seemed to have quite a variety of bakery items. It gave off a different vibe compared to popular chains like Paris Baguette or Tous Les Jours. Moreover, unlike many bakery cafes in the outskirts of Seoul, they had a wide range of different types of bread.

They had various items like Baumkuchen, Salt Bread, Cookies, and Madeleines. The Madeleines, with their reddish hue, added a special touch.

There were also items like Sablé, various cookies, Jeonbyeong, and Honey Multiseed Bread. The assortment of jams, including blueberry, fig, and strawberry, seemed to have a higher fruit content compared to those sold in stores.

They also had items like Mandu, pies, Madeleines, Croissants, Cream Cheese bread with Basil, and Onion Cream Cheese. These days, bread made with herbs seemed to delight both my nose and taste buds.

They offered a variety of gift sets, some of which exceeded 100,000 won. The cookie gift sets, in particular, seemed abundant.

There was also Mont Blanc, which was recommended by a friend, but I refrained from trying it in the first round as I had already eaten too much.

Since it was late in the evening, some bread items were about to be sold out.

Kim Youngmo’s bakery had many bakery items suitable for gifting.

There were also slices of cake that looked irresistibly tempting.

Candies could be a great option for White Day gifts.

I ordered a refreshing iced Americano.

Having this bread and coffee late at night, I must have been out of my mind… haha. But well, I almost slept all the way through after that.

In the end, bringing these home, I enjoyed their sweetness and softness. The sweetness seemed to fill my mouth more than expected.

Fold/Unfold

Located near Gangnam-gu Office Station, Kim Youngmo’s bakery had a wide variety of bread, more than I had anticipated. Especially, their selection of cookies and distinctive pastries caught my eye.

You could also sit inside the store and enjoy coffee or tea café-style. Although the prices were somewhat high overall, after trying a few bread items, I nodded in approval at their taste.
