Unplanned Namhae Island travel itinerary.
Introducing the Namhae German Village encountered during the trip.
It’s a place we drove about 2 hours from Daedeok-myeon, Gimcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do, where my mother lives.
We stopped by Samcheonpo Port and then headed to Namhae Island, and on the way to Mijo Port, we encountered a place that my mother was quite satisfied with.
The road leading up to the German Village.
If you drive all the way up, you’ll reach a parking lot.
A tourist information center for Namhae German Village was right in front of the parking lot.
Since there is no separate parking fee or admission fee for the German Village itself, keep that in mind.
The entrance to the Flower Art Village.
It was located at the inner end of the German Village and had a separate admission fee.
Since the purpose was to see the German Village, we skipped it.
(No major regrets)
If you have time, it’s a place worth visiting at least once.
It takes about an hour to get there.
The German Village tourist information map.
It would take about 2 hours to slowly walk around the entire village.
If you just walk halfway, an hour should be enough.
A church-like building near the parking lot.
The view of the Namhae Sea from the German Village.
The distant sea was visible from a faraway point.
It was somewhat disappointing that there was some fine dust in the air that day.
Camellia flowers.
The most commonly seen flowers in Namhae Island.
At the end of the path, there’s a European-style vibe.
Most roads in Europe are made of these kinds of stones… and they’ve captured that feeling perfectly here.
Indeed.
The German Village was populated by miners and nurses who emigrated in the 1970s.
They came here to settle while reminiscing about their lives in Germany and seem to be living with those memories and feelings.
The orange and white walls have a European feel to them.
It was nice that it was quiet, probably because it was a weekday.
I also dream of traveling to various places like this.
The water coming down from the mountainside is beautiful.
And they’ve beautifully made the uphill path with stone steps.
The front yard of the accommodation, which was operated as a pension.
Beautiful signposts were placed in every house, taking the names from Germany.
The landscaping of the trees was also unique and beautiful.
Souvenir shops.
There were many pensions, guesthouses, and places for experiences everywhere.
A place where you can taste authentic German sausages.
When you think of Germany, sausages are a must.
All the roads and houses we walked were like postcard backgrounds.
Gustoia Ice Cream.
Have you ever tasted this before? It was my first time hearing about it.
Nutcracker dolls.
A doll that you cannot miss when it comes to European vibes.
The German Village was one of the highlights of the trip to Namhae Island.
When I visited the Czech Republic before COVID-19, I often saw places like this, and seeing it again made me miss Europe.
When will I get to go again?
After walking for about an hour or so, I felt refreshed and my eyes were treated well.
If you’re thinking about places to visit in Namhae Island, the Namhae German Village might be a good option.
(If you quickly look around, an hour should be enough)
