Kangwon Province Makguksu is a traditional Korean dish featuring cold buckwheat noodles served in a flavorful broth. The noodles are typically accompanied by a rich and savory broth made from ingredients like beef or anchovies. The dish often includes various toppings such as cucumber, Korean pear, and a hard-boiled egg. Kangwon Province Makguksu is known for its refreshing taste, unique texture, and the ability to capture the essence of the region’s culinary heritage. It’s a popular choice, especially during warmer seasons, providing a satisfying and cooling dining experience

I’ve been a regular at Donghae Makguksu for several years now.

Whenever I visit Yangyang or Sokcho in Gangwon Province, it’s a must-visit place.

Today, I search for that unforgettable taste of Makguksu.

The first meal I had as soon as I arrived in Yangyang, Gangwon Province.

Throughout the day, the taste of Donghae Makguksu lingered in my mind.

This place boasts a unique flavor that you can’t experience in Seoul.

Strangely, it has a distinctiveness compared to other Makguksu restaurants in Gangwon Province.

✅ Phone: 033-671-8887

There’s a note that they operate until 6 PM without a break time on weekdays (refer to the photo below).

The ratings are oddly disappointing. Perhaps tastes vary among individuals.

Sometimes, the branch tastes even better than the main restaurant.

Well, it might be a matter of preference, but it offers a different sensation from the Makguksu I’ve had before.

Both the main and branch are located in Yangyang, and the taste is almost the same.

If you are closer to Hajo Beach and Jumunjin in the southern part of Yangyang, I recommend visiting the main restaurant.

If you are closer to Yangyang and Sokcho, the branch is also a good option.

No matter where you go, the rich flavor of the broth with the aroma of roasted sesame seeds and the deep taste of the meat broth will make you want to keep drinking.

The parking lot is incredibly spacious, but even with this size, it fills up during peak hours.

Business hours again:

I’m not sure if it’s Naver or the actual store, but…

Personally, I recommend the Mul Makguksu.

It also contains a bit of radish kimchi, which is not too spicy and suitable for everyone.

Don’t hesitate to order, as the portion is generous.

I recommend not adding vinegar, sugar, or mustard at first.

I usually don’t add them and enjoy the dish as it is.

The seasoning is sufficient, and that’s how it’s supposed to be.

No matter how many times you eat it, you can taste the authentic flavor of Gangwon Province.

Gangwon Province kimchi adds an authentic taste, whether you eat it alone or with Makguksu.

Pickled garlic is perfect when added to Makguksu, enhancing the overall flavor.

I sat by the window.

It’s not a place with a spectacular view, but you can glimpse the small scenery of the rural village.

Mul Makguksu:

The slightly dark soy sauce-like base color and the broth sprinkled with plenty of sesame powder captured my taste buds.

I’ve tried Bibim Makguksu before… but as expected, Donghae Makguksu is superior, especially the Mul Makguksu.

For first-timers, definitely go for the Mul (broth) version!

This place can truly be called the real Makguksu restaurant of Gangwon Province.

Moreover, the portion of Makguksu with cucumber and seasoned egg is quite generous.

It’s just a matter of time before you clear all the side dishes and noodles.

After a long time, I certify that I finished the whole meal

✔ If you’re in Yangyang or Sokcho in Gangwon Province, it’s a must-visit Donghae Makguksu restaurant.

✔ During peak hours, it can be a bit busy, and as a result, the service may be somewhat less friendly, but it’s forgiven because of the excellent taste.

✔ Since they open from 10 AM, it’s also a great choice for a morning or lunch menu.
